DeMar DeRozan looks like he’s ready to spend his summer playing dodgeball instead of basketball.
The Raptors forward is keeping in basketball shape this summer by playing in the Drew League. While competing in a game Sunday, DeRozan let his frustrations get the best of him when he decided to throw a basketball at the head of a referee because he wasn’t happy with the calls.
Playing alongside fellow NBA star Nick Young, DeRozan dropped 41 points but his performance was overshadowed by his actions at the end of the game.
Before he threw the ball, DeRozan had complained about a foul that wasn’t called and the other team ran up the court for an easy dunk. This annoyed the Raptors All Star and he responded by taking the following inbounds pass and firing the basketball towards the ref.
The ball missed the ref’s head, but it ended up hitting him in the back after it bounced off the wall.
DeRozan was slapped with a technical foul for the throw and he ended up walking off the court with Young after the incident.
The Raptors guard is coming off one of his best years in the NBA. He averaged 27 points a game with five rebounds.
He brought this same competitive edge to the Drew League, but after Sunday’s game in Los Angeles he might want to worry about throwing the ball in the basket instead of at the heads of referees.
