Green Day’s frontman thinks Donald Trump is more than just an American Idiot.
Outspoken rocker Billie Joe Armstrong compared the braggadocious Republican nominee to Adolf Hitler in a politically charged conversation with rock music’s Kerrang! magazine.
“The worst problem I see about Trump is who his followers are,” Armstrong began, according to Entertainment Weekly. “I actually feel bad for them, because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up. They’re pissed off and he’s preyed on their anger.”
“He just said, ‘You have no options and I’m the only one, and I’m going to take care of it myself,'” he continued. “I mean, that’s f—ing Hitler, man!”
It’s hardly the first time the 44-year-old Armstrong has made bold statement regarding the political state of America.
His band’s award-winning album “American Idiot” — particularly its title track and the song “Holiday” — was widely inspired by the nation’s conditions under President George W. Bush, as well as the Iraq war.
But even with all his criticisms of Bush, Armstrong says Trump is in a different league.
Armstrong compared the noxious Nimrod to Adolf Hitler.
“I wish I were over-exaggerating,” he told the magazine. “And sometime maybe I do over-exaggerate with Bush. But with Trump, I just can’t wait ’til he’s gone.”
It’s not the first time a public figure has likened Trump to the ruthless German dictator. In March, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto said the way Trump speaks is akin to the language of Hitler and former Italian dictator Benito Mussolini.
And a month later, polarizing hip-hop star Tyler, The Creator mocked the presidential hopeful with a t-shirt featuring Trump with a drawn-on, Hitler mustache.
