Didi Gregorius will return to the Yankees and make his season debut Friday against the Orioles at Yankee Stadium.
The 27-year-old shortstop has been out with a right shoulder strain.
Gregorius has yet to play for the Bombers this season after getting hurt while playing for the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic.
Joe Girardi had said “we will see him sometime in the next series,” but now the Yankees believe he’s well enough to play in the first game.
Gary Sanchez is inching closer to a return as well, as the Yankees catcher is likely to begin his minor-league rehab assignment on Tuesday at Triple-A Scranton, GM Brian Cashman said.
Sanchez (Grade 1 right brachialis strain) is on track to miss a month after initially suffering the injury April 8 in Baltimore.
